I nearly died today…

From Rotterdam we drove to Brugge. In the most horrendous weather conditions i have ever experienced. Torrential rain, 70mph winds, thunder and lighting.  It was here on the road to Brugge…with the hell hole Rotterdam behind us and the disasters of that fucking boat hostel already a distant memory. I drove through the barage of rain happy that we would never return to that place. I became trapped behind a large artic as it happily cruised along the motorway.  I decided to overtake him (in retrospect this was not a good idea). I squeezed the accelerator and ego mobile powered forward gliding effortlessly passed the enormous truck. Just up ahead through the steadily falling rain, I saw a car skid slightly on a plane of water. Before I had time to contemplate the consequences of a 10 tonne 18 wheeler truck hitting a sheet of water several cm deep at 60mph, it was too late! A tidal wave of water crashed into the ego mobile with immense force.  I clung to the steering wheel attempting to keep control. The wipers wiped but nothing happened. For a good 4 or 5 seconds we were completely blind. Now in normal day life 5 seconds is not that long, but just stop for a moment and count. Now imagine travelling 75mph beside a huge truck…and tell me your not scared! I actually thought I was DEAD! I shall reflect on this later as it has sparked many conversations on topics such as life expectancy and the many ways one can leave this earth…
